FIFA Ultimate Team Maker
But for all of the new modes, prizes and menu shortcuts, the basics remain very much the same. So if your knowledge of chemistry is confined to that Breaking Bad box set you received last Christmas, here are some tips to help you build a finely-tuned squad.
1. Start out with a single-player Draft tournament
Remember when Mark Hughes suddenly found himself managing one of the richest clubs in the world? This is how we felt the first time we fired up FIFA Ultimate Team Draft, which lets managers select a bunch of world class players and compete for big prizes in four-match tourneys - which is about how long Sparky lasted under the new Man City regime, come to think of it.
It costs a lot to enter, but you get a free pass when you fire up FIFA Ultimate Team for the first time, so you might as well get stuck straight in and use the prize money, Gold packs and other bonuses to fill out your actual Ultimate Team with better players.
2. Use Draft to learn about player chemistry
You don't go into football management without earning your FA coaching badges - unless your name's Gareth Southgate - and so there's no point getting stuck in to FIFA Ultimate Team without learning about player chemistry. Which is more important than individual player ratings - Mario Balotelli may be a decent player, after all, but he's a bad influence in the dressing room.
With Draft you don't have to worry about stat boosts, contracts and player ratings - everyone's pretty good already - you need only concern yourself with team chemistry. Which means looking for players of the same nationality, who play in the same league and ideally for the same club. It's a good way to learn the basics before building your proper team.
Mourinho dropping Terry, Arsene Wenger not buying a striker, Van Gaal signing an unknown teen for 36 million quid - football managers clearly like to gamble. But you shouldn't, at least not when you're starting out in FIFA Ultimate Team Draft.
Because of the cost to enter, you don't want to go out in the first round on your first go. So it's best to start out with a single-player tournament on a difficulty level you're comfortable with, because it's a little easier and a whole lot more predictable than playing against online opposition. Even two or three wins will set you up with lots of goodies for your actual Ultimate Team.
If like Alex Ferguson you're only working with three or four world class players when you assemble your initial Ultimate Team squad, then try as hard as possible to make them the focal point and build the rest of the team around them.
Player chemistry may be the most important thing in FUT, but you should also be aiming to increase the overall quality of your squad for the tougher challenges ahead. Channel Fergie's ruthless streak and sell players who offer nothing to the squad; experiment with different formations in order to incorporate your best players and as many of their countrymen as possible, and search the transfer market to plug any gaps you might have.
5. Look for easy ways to make coin
If the real footballing authorities dished out cash for the amount of passes a team competes, then Arsenal would be the richest club in the world and Arsene Wenger might have put his hand in his pocket during the transfer window - or perhaps not.
It may not happen in real life, but FIFA Ultimate Team does pay out for completed passes and goals, so if you're up against a defence as leaky as the Sunderland back four, don't mess about with long-range strikes and fancy lobs, just put the ball in the back of the net as much as you can.
6. Perform your managerial tasks for extra rewards
Jose Mourinho doesn't earn his 12 million quid just for putting 11 names on the teamsheet each week. The Chelsea boss is involved in every aspect of running the club, whether it's leading training sessions, speaking to the press or giving his medical staff a very public telling off.
